Restrictions on Specialty Metals (10 U.S.C. 2533b) - DFARS |
The Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement is commonly referenced by the clause "DFARS compliant" material. Accordingly, Unique Wire Weaving Company manufactures wire cloth to be fully DFARS compliant, based on the original melt origin. |
Specialty metals were included in DFARS in 1973, and the still often sited regulation, 252.225.7014, Article 1, requires that for Department of Defense procured specialty metals, the melt origin must be from a qualifying country (historically the NATO countries). The intent was to assure the availability of specialty metals in time of adversity or war, and has further been used in an effort to assure quality for aerospace and defense related products. |
This original clause was replaced with 252.225.7009 in July 2009, and includes language of exceptions, subject to controversial interpretation. Importers will sometimes provide wire cloth that was only woven in a qualifying country (i.e. Switzerland), but with wire whose melt origin was from a non-qualifying country (i.e. China). |
When you ask Unique for "DFARS compliant" wire cloth, you can be assured that we will supply material with the melt origin from a qualifying country. To comply with the strictest requirement and very original intent, we are often asked to and supply material that is only of U.S. melt origin, with wire that was domestically drawn, and of course the wire cloth woven in our Hillside, NJ manufacturing facility. |
