The Duplex alloys offer a mixed austenite and ferrite microstructure, combining many of the beneficial properties of both. Characterized by high chromium and nitrogen, they are special grades of stainless steel that have improved resistance to pitting and crevice corrosion, particularily in marine applications.

Duplex 2209

is the alloy most readily available in wire form, and was primarily developed
for welding Duplex 2205.
